No plans for holiday? Switch your apartment!

Very common way of spending holiday is exchange homes. People from totally different countries and habits, are meeting on line and decide to live for couple of weeks in each other flats. Usually, they don't know chosen city at all, they don't know the language, but sometimes friends of host are helping with adjustment. This sort of holiday is mostly popular in Esperanto circles, then speaking barrier is not an issue. Two students of this language, Paweł of Szczecin and Salman from Istanbul switch their apartments. Let's read what each one has to say about staying for 2 weeks in totally different country.
Salman's story

My name is Salman, I am 34 years old, and I live in Istanbul, Turkey. I was staying at Pawel's house for two weeks, and it was my first visit to Poland. First, when I came, I was surprised about the weather, it was very hot night in July, and I was ready to wear jacket. I land at Gdansk's airfield and then I take a train to Szczecin. I was a little afraid about response on my skin color, I was hearing couple distressing stories about racism of Polish inhabitants, but it was fine. Two friends of Pawel pick me up from main railway stop , and they assured me to take care of me in time of my stay. They also spoke Esperanto, and really good English, so chats were easy. Next day, at the morning, I had some polish breakfast, cooked for my by Pawel's roommate. It was delicious but very oily - big pieceof scrambled eggs with ham and plenty of onion, dressed with white bread and butter. After, I went to old town to see some of heritages (look there). I like European art, it so disparate then Muslim one. Szczecin has plenty of building raised in 19th century, few Medieval and Gothic churches and nice parks and squares. The most I liked post office structure, it looks the same like one from Harry Potter movie. Rest of my holiday I spend traveling along seacoast, tasting local cuisine, meeting new, generally friendly people. I very enjoy my visit in Poland.

Pawel's story

Hi, my name is Pawel, I am from Szczecin, I am thirty years old. I was visiting for two weeks in Istanbul, in house of my friend, which I met at Esperanto convention. I was really exited about my trip, I heard that Turkey is really interesting place. I was staying in large, snugflat in the middle of old district. I was observing morning bustle, while eating breakfast at balcony. I was charmed by Istanbul. It is really beautiful city, with fascinating history, and very chummy people (enter page). First week I spend discovering the city, not just old town with heritages, and monumental Arabic architecture, but also city center with biggest skyscrapers I have ever seen.

I spend 2 days at some of local beaches, and it was to much crowd, but the weather was delightful. Next week I was driving with my backpack trough some small towns, knowing about culture, habits and language of citizens. It was very important experience for me.

Switching apartments during vacations is a great deal, but only for courages ones. Some tourists could be worried about strange person staying in their flat, but if you find your host on special website, you are protected. So select your host wisely, and have fun during your vacations.
