2 basic reasons why people didn’t like their internship experience

At this moment, it is really fashionable to do internships. Parents, colleagues, teachers at uni – literally all of them were convincing me that I should do it and that it will be very useful experience. Sadly, I was naïve enough to believe them , and made a decision to do my internship during the summer break.

The selections process for this position was pretty rough. They checked my foreign languages as well as analytical skills. Therefore, I was completely convinced that the internship will be something meaningful - presumably I can have been too sure – I should say that I didn’t even question any detailed description regarding my potential duties.

Back then I was simply so happy with the news that I got the intern offer, that I didn’t think to request any info. At that time it was enough for me to be familiar with the firm where I was about to do the internship in. Presently I already know that my attitude was rather a huge mistake. Unfortunately, I think that this lesson was actually the only useful experience I learnt from this internship experience.

Earlier I thought that during the internship I will learn that kind of knowledge and skills that are transferable also to any other similar position. Unluckily, while doing that internship I was mostly doing these tasks which nobody else wanted to do. I understand that somebody always gotta to do these things , but at the same time I want to learn something useful during the intrnship.

Unluckily, I didn’t. To be honest I learnt a lot about New York city and its surroundings as I was helping other employees conducting the most boring stuff that they did’t want to do. Ironically, I learnt where to do cheap custom printing nyc or where to buy best coffee in the town. However I don’t believe that this is the type of knowledge I should gain from the internship.

Secondly, they didn’t pay me any salary. I am aware that I was not an employee thus I don’t have any precious experience they can need, but I was anyway doing some things they would pay for their workers to do. Thus, I really think that they should pay me at least symbolic amount of money. Just to confirm that they appreciated my time.
